Atlantic City, N.J. – Boaters off the New Jersey coast faced dangerous conditions early Tuesday as dense fog blanketed nearshore waters from Sandy Hook to Cape May, slashing visibility to less than one nautical mile.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 6 a.m. EDT Tuesday. The advisory spans all near-coastal zones, including waters near Manasquan Inlet, Little Egg Inlet, and Great Egg Inlet. Mariners in these areas are urged to proceed with extreme caution.

The fog is thickest within 20 nautical miles offshore, where navigation has become increasingly difficult. All vessels should use radar and compass tools, maintain running lights, and sound appropriate fog signals. Recreational boaters and commercial operators alike are advised to delay travel if possible until visibility improves.

This morning’s marine fog event is part of a broader pattern of humid early summer air masses clashing with cooler ocean temperatures—often resulting in localized fog banks.

Mariners should stay tuned for updated marine advisories as visibility conditions evolve after daybreak.
