Trenton, NJ – The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is conducting prescribed burns today, Feb. 22, in multiple areas across the state. These controlled burns help reduce wildfire risks by eliminating excess forest fuels.
According to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service, burns are scheduled in Burlington County’s Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, Monmouth County’s Monmouth Battlefield State Park, and two locations in Ocean County: Brendan T. Byrne State Forest and Manchester Wildlife Management Area.
These operations depend on weather conditions and may change. Residents seeing smoke should not be alarmed. If unsure about the source, call 9-1-1 or 877-WARN-DEP (877-927-6337).
Prescribed burns help manage vegetation, improve wildlife habitats, and recycle nutrients into the soil. They also reduce tick populations and enhance forest health. The program is a key part of New Jersey’s wildfire prevention strategy.
