New Castle, IN – A Jeffersonville man is in critical condition after a serious motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon on Interstate 70 near New Castle.

Trooper Max Disney of the Indiana State Police reported that a red 2025 Harley-Davidson three-wheeled motorcycle, driven by 79-year-old Larry Dean Peeples, veered off the road near the New Castle exit. Investigators believe Peeples may have suffered a medical emergency before the crash. The motorcycle struck a sign, overturned, and landed in a ditch.

According to officials, Trooper Disney found Peeples unresponsive and performed CPR until emergency crews arrived. Peeples was airlifted to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with life-threatening injuries. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a helmet.

The westbound exit of Interstate 70 near New Castle was closed for about an hour while emergency personnel cleared the scene. Assisting agencies included Henry County Sheriff’s Department, Spiceland Volunteer Fire Department, and New Castle EMS.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the cause of the crash.
