Lincoln, Neb. – Two separate rounds of severe weather are set to impact Nebraska starting at midnight Monday, with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes stretching into early Tuesday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the first wave of storms is expected to move through central Nebraska between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, primarily affecting areas like Kearney, Grand Island, and Columbus. A second, potentially more intense round is forecast to arrive after 10 p.m. Monday, lasting through 7 a.m. Tuesday, as a complex of storms pushes in from the west.
Areas under a heightened Level 3 risk include parts of south-central Nebraska near Holdrege and Hastings, where large hail over 2 inches and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph are possible. Cities including Lincoln and Omaha are under a Level 2 risk, with flash flooding and strong overnight winds posing additional hazards.
Residents are urged to prepare now by securing loose outdoor items, charging devices, and enabling emergency alerts on phones. With storms likely to strike while most are asleep, it’s critical to stay weather-aware through Tuesday morning.
