Hastings, Nebraska – Severe storms packing 60 mph winds, hail, and heavy rainfall are set to slam parts of Nebraska Sunday and Monday evenings, with the most intense activity focused west of Highway 281 and during early nighttime hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, two rounds of storms will track down from the northwest—first arriving between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday night, then again after 7 p.m. Monday. Both days bring a Level 2 (Slight Risk) for severe weather across central and western Nebraska, including cities like Kearney, McCook, and Holdrege. Hail up to quarter size is possible Sunday, increasing to half-dollar size Monday.
Wind gusts could exceed 60 mph in the strongest cells, with localized flooding also possible due to heavy rainfall. The areas most at risk are western and southwestern Nebraska, including parts of Furnas, Dawson, and Red Willow counties.
Drivers should delay evening travel if possible, especially in areas under active warnings. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, monitor NOAA alerts, and prepare for potential power outages.
Storm risks will persist through late Monday night, and additional advisories may be issued if conditions worsen.
