Nashville, TN – A Thursday morning collision on Whites Creek Pike has left two Springfield men dead following a three-vehicle crash near Sycamore Creek Road.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the incident occurred around 7:50 a.m. when a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 70-year-old Robin Bernard of Portland, Tennessee, crossed into the northbound lanes and collided with a GMC Sierra pickup truck. The Malibu was then struck by a dump truck that was also headed southbound and had attempted to brake.
Authorities identified the deceased as Andy O. Hernandez, 22, and Jonathan J. Palafox-Pacheco, 20, both passengers in the Malibu. Palafox-Pacheco died at the scene, while Hernandez succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Skyline Medical Center.
Bernard, the Malibu’s driver, was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the GMC Sierra and a passenger were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The dump truck driver was not injured.
Investigators stated there were no signs of impairment among any drivers. The crash remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office upon completion.
