Aurora, IL – A Naperville man was fatally struck by a vehicle Tuesday morning while crossing Illinois Route 59 near the Fox Valley Mall in Aurora.
According to the Aurora Police Department, 54-year-old Derrick Davis, of the 2500 block of Arcadia Circle in Naperville, was hit by a black 2018 Infiniti Q50 around 8:46 a.m. as he attempted to cross eastbound at the intersection of Route 59 and Fox Valley Entrance 1. The driver, who was traveling northbound, attempted to stop but was unable to avoid the collision.
Emergency responders transported Davis to Rush Copley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:59 a.m. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
The Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division continues to investigate the incident, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
