Emmett Township, MI – A 34-year-old Emmett Township man was arrested Friday after a high-speed chase, standoff, and tense negotiation with police. The incident began around 5:39 p.m. when a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy attempted a traffic stop on Beckley Road in Battle Creek for multiple violations. The man, identified by prior contact, was a known violent offender with active felony warrants.

When the deputy approached, the man fled east on Beckley Road, initiating a pursuit. The chase continued to Beadle Lake Road, where the suspect crashed and abandoned his vehicle near Trappers Ridge. He fled on foot into nearby woods. Calhoun County’s K9 unit tracked him to a house, where officers established a perimeter.

Negotiators engaged the suspect, who threatened to harm officers if they approached. After four hours of negotiation, he surrendered without incident. The man faces charges of resisting arrest and multiple firearms violations. Authorities urge anyone with more information to contact Lt. Curtis Smith or submit tips anonymously via Silent Observer.
