Medford, Oregon – Scattered thunderstorms will develop by mid-afternoon Saturday across southern Oregon and far northern California, with lightning and gusty winds posing immediate risks to outdoor areas and travel routes through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, a disturbance moving through the region will trigger isolated storms between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday, primarily impacting Siskiyou and Modoc counties. Lightning is the primary concern, along with brief heavy rain and wind gusts strong enough to affect visibility and road conditions.

Communities including Klamath Falls, Alturas, and areas along U.S. Highway 97 and State Route 139 could see rapidly changing conditions. While rainfall totals will remain limited, bursts of heavy rain may create slick surfaces and minor pooling on low-lying roads. Gusty winds near storm cells could also impact drivers, especially in open terrain.

Residents and visitors should avoid exposed locations such as mountain summits, lakes, and large fields during storms. If thunder is heard, move indoors immediately. Secure loose gear and plan for sudden weather changes if traveling through the region Saturday afternoon.

Storm activity will taper off late Saturday night, with quieter conditions expected by early Sunday. Additional updates may be issued if storm coverage expands.
