Mandan, ND – Drivers in the Bismarck-Mandan area should expect road closures and detours tonight, December 31, as the City of Mandan hosts its annual New Light New Year’s Eve Firework Show at Mandan High School.

According to the Mandan Police Department, full enforcement road closures will take place from 9:45 p.m. to approximately 10:30 p.m., coinciding with the fireworks display and immediate post-show cleanup.

The following routes will be closed to all traffic during that window:

  • Old Red Trail from 8th Avenue NW to County Road 1806
  • 4th Avenue NW from Old Red Trail to the south entrance of Mandan High School
  • South access road of Mandan High School from 8th Avenue NW to 4th Avenue NW

No parking will be allowed on 4th Avenue NW from Old Red Trail to 24th Street NW and on Old Red Trail itself.

A signed detour will direct traffic around the area via Old Red Trail – 24th Street NW – County Road 1806 – Old Red Trail. Event parking at Mandan High School opens at 7:00 p.m. for ticket holders only.

Police caution that traffic may be heavier than normal following the fireworks around 10:30 p.m. Motorists using Interstate 94 between the Mandan Avenue and Sunset Drive interchanges should also be aware of possible visibility issues due to fireworks smoke.

Officials urge attendees to follow posted detour signs, obey traffic officers, and be respectful of nearby neighborhoods.
