Magnitude 5.3 Earthquake Strikes Off Port McNeill, Canada

Port McNeill, BC – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck 212 kilometers west of Port McNeill early Tuesday. The quake occurred at 5:37 a.m. UTC at a depth of 10 kilometers.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean. No tsunami warnings were issued. Residents in nearby areas reported mild shaking, but no damage or injuries were confirmed.

Seismologists continue monitoring aftershocks. Earthquakes are common in this region due to tectonic activity along the Pacific and North American plates.

Officials urge residents to review emergency plans and stay prepared. Earthquake preparedness includes securing furniture, assembling emergency kits, and identifying safe areas in homes.
