Lake County, IN: Shooting Alert – 19 Shots Fired in East Chicago, Man Injured

East Chicago, IN – A Dolton, Illinois man was shot multiple times late this afternoon in East Chicago, prompting a large police response and an ongoing investigation.

According to the East Chicago Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:25 p.m. to the 3400 block of Guthrie Street following a ShotSpotter alert that detected a total of 19 gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers found a 35-year-old man suffering from three gunshot wounds to the torso.

The victim was transported to St. Catherine Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Authorities confirmed that a firearm and shell casings were recovered at the scene. One person was taken into custody, although police have not disclosed whether that individual is a suspect or related to the incident.

The East Chicago Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and a Crime Scene Investigator responded to the scene to collect evidence and begin their investigation.

Officials stated that the investigation remains active and no additional details are being released at this time.
