Wauconda, IL – A 14-year-old boy has died following a crash involving an electric motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle Tuesday night in Wauconda, according to the Wauconda Police Department.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 9:56 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to the 500 block of North Main Street for a report of a serious traffic crash involving an e-moto and a gray 2025 Honda Pilot. Initial reports indicated the e-moto operator may not have been breathing.
Responding officers located the 14-year-old rider with critical injuries in the roadway. He was transported by the Wauconda Fire District to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the e-moto collided with the northbound Honda Pilot. Police said the SUV was occupied by a 44-year-old female driver and an adult female passenger. Both were evaluated at the scene and were not injured.
According to the Wauconda Police Department, the Honda driver is cooperating with investigators, and no charges have been filed at this time.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) assisted the Wauconda Police Department and the Wauconda Fire District with the response and investigation. Main Street was closed in both directions for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
