Eustis, FL – Emergency crews in Lake County shut down East Crooked Lake Drive near Country Club Drive late Monday after two sinkholes opened along the roadway amid heavy rain and flooding, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said road and emergency personnel are working together to assess the sinkholes and manage several weather-related calls in the Eustis area. Residents in nearby neighborhoods reported worsening flooding conditions through the afternoon, including rising water on Orange Avenue and flooding inside homes along Sandridge Circle.
Social media posts from locals describe water overflowing storm drains and drainage systems overwhelmed by debris. One resident said, “The drainage pipe has been blocked for years — it finally cleared after hours of the worst rain we’ve ever had.”
Authorities are urging residents to avoid flooded streets and to use caution near East Crooked Lake and Country Club Road, as the ground remains unstable.
No injuries have been reported, but residents near the affected area are advised to monitor local alerts and avoid driving through high water.
