Lake County Coroner Confirms Identity of Gary Man in Fatal Shooting

Gary, IN – Authorities have identified a 25-year-old man fatally shot in Gary early Monday morning. The victim, Karriem Branch, sustained gunshot wounds in what has been classified as a homicide.

According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, officials responded to the 4600 block of Buchanan Street at 2:20 a.m. Family members identified the deceased at the Lake County Forensic Science Center by photograph. Branch was reportedly homeless and lived in several locations.

A forensic autopsy conducted Monday confirmed Branch’s cause of death as gunshot wounds. Toxicology results are pending. The shooting occurred near the 1300 block of West 47th Avenue.

Lake County authorities, including the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, Gary Police, and County CSI, are investigating the case. Officials pronounced Branch dead at 2:50 a.m. No further details about suspects or motives have been released.
