Kitchen Fire in Plainfield, IL Causes $75,000 in Damage, Kills Two Pets

Plainfield, IL – A kitchen fire in Plainfield on Tuesday evening left a home uninhabitable and claimed the lives of two pets. The fire, reported at 5:25 p.m., occurred in the 13400 block of South Rivercrest Drive. According to the Plainfield Fire Protection District, the fire began in the kitchen of a one-story single-family home.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within two minutes of the call and quickly contained the blaze. The resident managed to escape with a family pet before firefighters arrived. Unfortunately, two other pets perished in the fire. Firefighters extinguished the fire, ventilated the house, and searched the premises to prevent further damage.

The home sustained approximately $75,000 in damage and was deemed uninhabitable. NICOR and Commonwealth Edison secured the utilities. Fire investigators determined the fire to be accidental.
