OSWEGO, Ill. — A DeKalb man is in custody following an early morning armed robbery investigation that escalated into a crash near Interstate 88, prompting a multi-agency response across Kendall and Kane counties.
According to Oswego Police, officers were dispatched around 3:24 a.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Concord Drive South for reports of shots fired. During the investigation, authorities learned a driver involved in a crash in nearby Aurora had reported being robbed at gunpoint in Oswego shortly before the collision.
Police say the victim was sitting in his vehicle outside his home when a suspect allegedly approached, displayed a firearm, and robbed him. The victim then retrieved a firearm from his residence and pursued the suspect vehicle. During the pursuit, the victim reported the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at him, prompting the victim to fire multiple shots.
Both vehicles traveled northbound on Orchard Road before crashing near Orchard Road and I-88. Two individuals fled from the suspect vehicle. One suspect was later located by Kane County deputies and turned over to Oswego Police, while a second individual remains at large.
The arrested suspect was identified as Timothy J. Rodgers, 22, of DeKalb. He was charged with armed robbery and armed violence, both Class X felonies. Authorities say additional charges may be pending.
Rodgers is being held at the Kendall County Jail pending a pretrial hearing Monday. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue searching for the second suspect.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Oswego Police or Kendall County Crime Stoppers.
