Davenport, IA – Heavy rain showers are expected to impact parts of eastern Iowa and western Illinois, including the Quad Cities and Clinton, by early this evening as a slow-moving system moves through the area.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, a cluster of thunderstorms moving east at just 5 mph may bring isolated downpours and occasional thunder as it drifts toward the Mississippi River corridor. Forecasters say the system is projected to reach the Quad Cities and Clinton around 6 p.m. Sunday.
The slow speed of the system could lead to localized heavy rainfall in affected areas. Lightning remains a possibility with these storms, and forecasters are urging residents to be prepared to seek shelter as necessary.
“Due to the slow movement, some areas may see isolated heavy rain accumulations,” the alert stated. While severe weather is not expected, any thunderstorms that develop could be intense enough to prompt quick responses.
Residents in cities like Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, and Rock Island should monitor conditions through the evening and take necessary precautions, especially if thunder is heard nearby. The National Weather Service reminds the public: “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
Drivers are advised to use caution during the evening commute as visibility and road conditions may be affected by rainfall. The alert remains valid through 6 p.m. Sunday.
This marks the latest round of unsettled weather for the region following a stretch of variable June conditions across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
