Indiana State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Interstate 74 in Fountain County

Fountain County, IN – A fatal crash involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck closed eastbound lanes of Interstate 74 near the 23-mile marker Thursday afternoon.

According to the Indiana State Police, the crash occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. when a westbound 2004 Ford F-150 lost control, crossed the median, and rolled over into the eastbound lanes. The pickup collided with an oncoming semi-truck, which came to rest in a ditch, while the pickup remained in the roadway and caught fire.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fountain County Coroner. Their identity is being withheld pending notification of family. The semi-truck driver, Thomas Connolly, 51, of Buckeye, Arizona, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Emergency crews, including the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team, the Fountain County Sheriff’s Office, and several fire departments, responded to the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Authorities have not released additional details.
