Peru, IL – Drivers using Interstate 80 in La Salle County should prepare for overnight ramp closures this week as resurfacing work continues near the Illinois 251 and Illinois 351 interchanges.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the project will require several temporary closures beginning Tuesday. On Sept. 9, westbound I-80 exit and entrance ramps will close for paving. The exit ramp will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., while the entrance ramp will shut down from midnight until 5 a.m.

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, eastbound I-80 ramps will be affected. The exit ramp will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., with the entrance ramp closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. IDOT noted that connections to the Illinois 351 interchange ramps will also be milled and paved, though they will remain open to traffic.

The $5.3 million resurfacing project, which stretches from just west of the Illinois 251 interchange (exit 75) to the Illinois 351 interchange (exit 77), began earlier this month and is expected to wrap up by the end of September. IDOT said all lanes on I-80 will remain open during weekends and holidays, but intermittent closures on ramps will continue on weekdays as crews complete the work.

Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, follow posted signs in work zones, and consider alternate routes when possible. Drivers should also stay alert for workers, avoid distractions, and expect slower conditions through the construction area.

The resurfacing is part of the broader Rebuild Illinois program, a multi-year initiative investing more than $33 billion into transportation infrastructure across the state.
