Pocatello, ID – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for parts of Central Idaho from noon Saturday through midnight Sunday, as a strong early-season storm moves through the region. The advisory covers the Frank Church Wilderness, Sawtooth and Stanley Basin, Sun Valley Region, and Big Lost Highlands/Copper Basin.

According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, snow is expected to begin this afternoon, with the heaviest accumulation in areas above 7,000 feet where 6 to 12 inches could fall by Sunday night. Communities around 6,000 feet, including Stanley, Ketchum, and Sun Valley, could see 1 to 4 inches of snow.

Forecasters warn that travel may become difficult, especially on mountain passes, and that gusty winds up to 35 mph could reduce visibility and bring down tree branches. Drivers are urged to slow down and check 511.idaho.gov for current road conditions.

The advisory remains in effect until midnight Sunday night, when conditions are expected to gradually improve as the system moves east.

Residents and travelers are encouraged to plan ahead and prepare for winter driving conditions through the weekend.
