Chicago, IL – The Windy City lives up to its nickname today with the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting northwest gusts up to 45 mph, particularly impacting areas east of I-57. A vigilant watch for afternoon thunderstorms is also in effect in this region. While the gusty winds are expected to persist into early evening, residents can look forward to a predominantly pleasant weekend. However, Sunday’s forecast indicates a stark shift as temperatures plunge due to an advancing cold front.

The week’s weather narrative is a tale of contrasts, with Saturday’s highs ranging from 66 to 73 degrees, potentially dipping cooler near the Illinois shoreline by late day. In stark opposition, Sunday could see a spike to 80 degrees before the cold front sweeps through, dramatically dropping temperatures by the evening.

As the new workweek commences, Monday maintains warmer temperatures, but the tranquility may be short-lived. By evening, storm chances rise, with Tuesday’s outlook suggesting a severe weather potential, including strong south winds and gusts paralleling those of today. The NWS advises securing any loose items outdoors and recommends caution for commuters facing these blustery conditions.
