Hammon, Okla. – A severe thunderstorm is bringing 60 mph wind gusts, hail, and torrential rain to western Oklahoma this afternoon, with drivers and residents urged to seek shelter immediately.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, the warning remains in effect until 3:30 p.m. Monday for Custer and Roger Mills counties. Radar detected the storm nearly stationary over Hammon, Moorewood, and the Foss Reservoir area, increasing the risk of prolonged heavy rainfall.

The storm is expected to cause hail damage to vehicles and could rip siding from homes while toppling trees. Emergency officials caution that flash flooding is also possible, making some roads impassable. Residents are advised not to drive through flooded areas and to remain indoors on the lowest level of a sturdy building until the storm passes.

Communities in the warning zone should prepare for additional alerts as the system lingers. More updates will be issued if conditions worsen or new warnings are needed.
