Mobile, AL – A widespread freeze is set to impact the central Gulf Coast overnight, with temperatures dipping below freezing and threatening crops, gardens, and exposed plumbing before sunrise Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday across southwest Alabama, northwest Florida, and southeast Mississippi. Temperatures are expected to fall as low as 29 degrees, especially in inland communities including Mobile, Evergreen, Crestview, and Waynesboro.

The coldest window will occur between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m., when clear skies and light winds allow temperatures to drop quickly. Inland areas such as Clarke, Monroe, and Escambia counties face the highest risk of widespread frost, while coastal spots may remain slightly warmer but still see patchy freezing conditions.

Sensitive vegetation and early spring crops are at risk of damage. Residents should cover plants, bring pets indoors, and protect exposed pipes by insulating or allowing faucets to drip overnight.

Temperatures will rebound after sunrise Wednesday, but additional cold mornings remain possible, and more advisories could follow across the Gulf Coast.
