Tampa, Florida – Heavy rain and strong storms could drench Hillsborough County Thursday afternoon as intense heat and building humidity set the stage for dangerous weather. Tampa residents should brace for possible flash flooding, strong winds, and lightning strikes after 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a 60% chance of thunderstorms begins Thursday afternoon, with some storms capable of producing over half an inch of rain in an hour. Highs will soar to 92°F, but the heat index may hit 105°F, especially before the storms roll in. Winds from the southeast around 10 mph will usher in moist air, priming conditions for instability. Lightning and sudden downpours could disrupt evening travel on US-92, I-275, and surface streets across the metro.

Localized power outages and street flooding are possible. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during storm windows. Thursday night storms may continue through 11 p.m. before gradually tapering off.

Friday and Saturday bring more of the same — heat and scattered showers during the afternoon hours — with highs sticking around the low 90s. The wet pattern continues through Sunday, with rain chances near 70% each day.

Five-Day Tampa Weather Outlook (June 11–16)
