TAMPA, FL – Heavy rain and frequent thunderstorms are expected to develop throughout West Central and Southwest Florida today, with the potential for minor flooding in some areas. Showers will intensify through the afternoon and evening, especially along the Nature Coast, as deep moisture continues to fuel storm development.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Tampa Bay, the storms will produce frequent lightning, heavy rainfall, and the possibility of localized flooding. The storms will be widespread across the region, including counties like Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Sarasota, with the highest risk extending to southwest Florida this evening.
Motorists should expect wet roads and reduced visibility during the peak of the storms, particularly near coastal areas. NWS advises residents to remain indoors during periods of intense rainfall to avoid hazardous conditions.
High temperatures are forecast to range from the mid-80s to low 90s, with heat indices pushing even higher. This combination of high humidity and rain will make conditions feel hotter than usual.
The threat for thunderstorms and flooding will continue through tonight, and more warnings may follow as conditions evolve. Stay tuned for further updates.
