Jacksonville, FL – Thunderstorms could drench Jacksonville by 2 p.m. Wednesday, triggering travel delays along I-95 and U.S. Route 1 as Florida enters a prolonged summer storm pattern.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, showers will intensify mid-afternoon Wednesday, with an 80% chance of thunderstorms developing between 2 and 8 p.m. South winds will gust up to 16 mph as storms move east. Lightning, localized flooding, and heavy downpours are expected. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and delay non-essential travel during peak storm hours.

Cities across northeast Florida, including Orange Park, St. Augustine, and Fernandina Beach, could see brief street flooding and power flickers. Storms may return Wednesday night into Thursday, continuing a wet trend with high rain chances persisting through the weekend.

Drivers should watch for water ponding on highways during commutes and avoid underpasses that could rapidly flood. Keep phones charged and secure loose outdoor items.

By Thursday, another round of storms is expected between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday show similar timing, making this a stretch of consecutive high-impact weather days. While no widespread severe alerts have been issued, NWS warns the pattern resembles past June systems known to disrupt travel and strain drainage systems.

Five-Day Weather Outlook for Jacksonville (June 10–15):

  • Tuesday: High 92°F, 40% chance of p.m. storms
  • Wednesday: High 89°F, 80% chance of storms after 2 p.m.
  • Thursday: High 91°F, 80% chance of storms mid-day
  • Friday: High 91°F, 80% chance of storms after 2 p.m.
  • Saturday: High 91°F, storms continue with 80% rain chance

Storms may taper early next week, but alerts remain in effect through Sunday.
