Braidwood, IL — The Braidwood Fire Protection District has been awarded a $1.08 million SAFER grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This grant will fund three additional full-time firefighter/paramedic positions for the next three years.

According to the Braidwood Fire Protection District, the Staffing for Adequate Fire Emergency Response (SAFER) grant will cover the salary and benefits of these positions. The district aims to increase full-time staffing and improve fire protection and safety for residents.

The grant builds on a previous award that funded three firefighter/paramedic positions a year ago. By the end of the grant period, the district will support six full-time positions. After three years, Braidwood will be responsible for sustaining these roles.

The fire district thanked U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and her team for their support in securing this funding. This is the largest staffing grant Braidwood has ever received. The district expressed gratitude to the community and partners who helped secure the funding.

The grant aims to ensure that fire departments maintain adequate staffing to meet national safety standards.
