Eau Claire, WI – Authorities in Eau Claire County are intensifying their search for a missing man last seen in a rural area after his vehicle was found abandoned in a ditch, according to the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office.
On January 13, Mr. Lewis was released from a Wisconsin Department of Corrections facility and later obtained a vehicle in the Humbird area of Clark County. He was reportedly traveling to Cadott, Wisconsin, where an associate last heard from him by text message around 11:30 p.m. that night. Mr. Lewis stated that he had driven his vehicle into a ditch and was avoiding law enforcement at the time.
According to the sheriff’s office, the associate attempted to locate Mr. Lewis on January 16 and found his vehicle abandoned and stuck in a ditch at approximately 11:40 p.m. Law enforcement was then notified.
Since then, deputies have been actively investigating, using drones, K-9 units, and search teams to comb wooded and rural areas near where the vehicle was discovered. A professional K-9 search team from Madison is scheduled to assist in the ongoing search efforts.
Authorities are urging the public to stay clear of the search zones as certain roadways may be temporarily closed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Eau Claire County Emergency Communications Center at 715-839-4972 or submit tips anonymously through Eau Claire County Crime Stoppers.
