Richmond, Virginia – Storms developing within hours this afternoon could disrupt travel across central and eastern Virginia, with wet roads and brief downpours likely to impact the I-95 and I-64 corridors by mid to late afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, clouds will increase steadily through the day following a dry start, with scattered showers and thunderstorms developing between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. While the severe threat remains low, storms may produce brief heavy rain and gusty winds, especially south of I-64 and across Hampton Roads.
High temperatures will reach 82 to 87 degrees south of I-64, including areas like Petersburg and Emporia, while locations north of the corridor, including Richmond and Fredericksburg, hold closer to 78 to 82 degrees. Along the Eastern Shore, cooler marine air will keep highs in the 60s.
Rain becomes more widespread tonight, with temperatures falling into the 45 to 60 degree range by early Sunday. Roads may remain slick overnight, particularly on heavily traveled routes like I-95, I-295, and US-58. Drivers should slow down during downpours and watch for ponding on low-lying roadways.
Cooler, breezy conditions take hold Sunday with highs between 55 and 65 degrees and scattered showers lingering. Gradual clearing arrives Monday, with temperatures recovering into the 60 to near 70 degrees. Additional updates are expected by early afternoon as storm coverage becomes clearer.
