Danville Police Arrest 17-Year-Old After Gunfire Leads to Car Chase

Danville, IL — A 17-year-old male was arrested Monday night following a shooting and subsequent car chase in Danville.

Danville Police responded to a report of shots fired on Buchanan Street around 8:47 p.m. Officers found that gunfire had struck a residence and vehicle. No injuries were reported. While investigating, officers learned a black Ford Fusion was involved.

At 9:18 p.m., officers located the Ford Fusion near South and Park Streets, just blocks from the shooting. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled, initiating a car chase. During the pursuit, officers observed a firearm thrown from the vehicle and later recovered it as evidence.

The chase ended when the vehicle struck a tree on Fowler Street. Officers apprehended the driver, who was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, fleeing, and resisting arrest. A 24-year-old male passenger was detained but later released.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to contact Danville Police or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers.
