Chicago, IL – Two men face felony charges after Cook County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly found suspected heroin, cocaine, and a firearm during a court-ordered eviction in Chicago’s Avalon Park neighborhood. The discovery occurred around 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 22 at a residence in the 4400 block of South Lavergne Avenue, authorities said.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were enforcing the eviction when 38-year-old Durian Land allegedly appeared nervous and reached toward his pocket. Deputies conducted a search and recovered a plastic bag of suspected crack cocaine and cash. During a safety pat of 47-year-old Royayers Spicer, multiple small bags of suspected heroin were also found.

A third individual at the residence was detained on unrelated warrants from Cook and McHenry counties. Deputies later discovered additional suspected cocaine and a firearm inside a backpack in a bedroom.

Following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Police Organized Crime Division, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Land with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance. Spicer was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Both men were released from custody after their initial court appearances on Oct. 23 at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

The Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
