Billings, Mont. – Severe thunderstorms are expected to intensify across a wide swath of the central U.S. through 11 p.m. MDT Sunday, with Montana, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming all under active Severe Thunderstorm Watches tonight.
According to the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center, watches are in effect for 11 p.m. in Montana counties including Fergus, Judith Basin, Blaine, Dawson, Richland, Wibaux, and Valley. Cities like Lewistown, Sidney, and Glasgow may see large hail, strong winds, and frequent lightning. In eastern Montana, Phillips, Roosevelt, Sheridan, and McCone are also included.
Further south, Severe Thunderstorm Watch 420 covers eastern Colorado (including Yuma, Logan, and Kit Carson counties), western Kansas (Sherman, Cheyenne, and Rawlins), and much of western Nebraska—from Box Butte to Dundy. Residents in Sterling, Goodland, and Scottsbluff should prepare for rapid storm development and possible wind gusts exceeding 60 mph.
In New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle, Watch 419 spans from Chaves and Roosevelt counties in NM down to Reeves, Ward, and Yoakum counties in TX. This includes Roswell, Hobbs, and Andrews.
Motorists should avoid driving during storm activity, especially after dark. Secure outdoor items, remain indoors during lightning, and monitor NOAA weather radio or local alerts.
Severe weather risk continues through tonight, with additional watches or warnings possible if storms persist or redevelop.
