Tampa, FL – A Freeze Watch has been issued for Levy and Citrus counties in Florida’s Nature Coast region, as a strong cold front brings the coldest air of the season late Monday night through Tuesday morning, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 23°F in some inland areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay–Ruskin, both coastal and inland areas, including Cedar Key, Crystal River, Chiefland, Williston, Inverness, and Bronson, are under the watch. Subfreezing temperatures are likely between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters warn that the hard freeze could kill crops, damage sensitive vegetation, and burst unprotected pipes. Residents should cover plants, wrap outdoor plumbing, and bring pets indoors before temperatures plunge Monday night.

Light winds and clear skies will allow rapid cooling after sunset, leading to widespread frost and potentially icy surfaces early Tuesday morning. Motorists should use caution on bridges and shaded roadways, which may develop light frost or slick spots.

This will likely mark the first hard freeze of the season for Florida’s Nature Coast, signaling an early start to winter conditions. Temperatures are forecast to moderate slightly by midweek.
