Chicago, Illinois – Rain chances are back in play for the Chicago metro area starting Thursday afternoon, as thunderstorms push through just in time to disrupt commutes and outdoor plans.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 20% chance of thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Thursday, with a high near 73°F and gusts up to 15 mph. That chance rises to 50% Friday evening, making it likely that parts of the weekend could start wet. Roads like I-55, I-90, and Lakeshore Drive could see brief ponding during downpours, especially during the Friday night drive home.

By Thursday night, isolated showers may linger, with lows dipping to around 62°F. Friday brings a more organized system, offering a better shot at showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and into the evening. Winds from the south at up to 15 mph could make conditions feel breezy, but no severe weather is expected at this time.

Weekend relief arrives Saturday, with highs only in the upper 60s and mostly cloudy skies. Cooler temperatures may extend into Sunday, offering a more comfortable stretch for Father’s Day activities.

⚠️ Travelers should avoid flooded roadways and check real-time conditions via IDOT. Residents should charge mobile devices ahead of Friday night in case of storm-related outages.
