Charlotte County, FL – A Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office K9 is being praised for helping locate an injured woman who went missing after a car crash, authorities said Tuesday.
According to the Florida Sheriffs Association, K9 Zoe and her handler, Cpl. Sella, were called in after deputies found an abandoned vehicle involved in a crash. Investigators located a single shoe inside the car and used it to give Zoe the woman’s scent.
The bloodhound successfully followed the trail for approximately 1.6 miles before locating the injured woman. Officials said she was found alive and received medical attention shortly after being discovered.
The Florida Sheriffs Association commended the team’s efforts, highlighting the importance of K9 units in critical search-and-rescue operations.
“Using nothing but a scent from a shoe, Zoe was able to lead deputies directly to the woman,” the department shared in a statement.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has not yet released the woman’s identity or the cause of the crash.
