CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rain is dampening the Tuesday morning commute, but a stretch of classic fall sunshine is on the way for Charlotte and much of central North Carolina. Commuters along I-85 will face slick roads early, with showers tapering off before midday, clearing the path for drier travel into the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, showers are likely before noon with patchy fog lingering until midmorning. Conditions improve quickly as clouds break, leaving behind cooler-than-normal highs near 72. By Wednesday, the pattern flips as sunshine dominates, and temperatures climb toward 79. Winds remain breezy from the northeast, with gusts near 22 mph at times.

The shift to clearer skies will bring several days of stable fall weather across Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. Thursday through Saturday looks almost textbook October — highs in the low to mid-70s, crisp mornings dipping into the 50s, and clear visibility. That stretch should hold through early next week, making for safe road conditions, easier air travel, and excellent opportunities for outdoor events.

Drivers should remain cautious through Tuesday morning, especially on I-85 and I-77, where wet pavement could create slick patches during rush hour. Once skies clear, North Carolinians can look forward to several days of open-window weather with no major hazards expected.

The sunny streak continues until at least Monday, when highs push near 80 again. Any new advisories or changes will come from the National Weather Service as October settles in with bright skies.
