BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Powerful winds are sweeping across central New York and northeast Pennsylvania Friday night, bringing gusts up to 50 mph and the potential for scattered power outages and travel issues through early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday, covering counties including Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Madison, Cortland, and Delaware in New York, as well as Bradford, Susquehanna, and Luzerne in Pennsylvania. Sustained west winds between 15 and 25 mph could knock down tree limbs and unsecured outdoor items.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution, especially those operating high-profile vehicles on exposed roads such as Interstate 81 and Route 17. Crews are preparing for possible power interruptions, and residents are advised to secure outdoor decorations and patio furniture ahead of the strongest gusts.

The wind threat will taper off by sunrise Saturday, but cooler air and scattered lake-effect showers may linger into the weekend. Additional advisories are possible if gusty conditions persist into Saturday afternoon.
