Central Illinois — Residents of Central Illinois should prepare for a weather shift this week, as clear skies and calm weekend conditions give way to high winds, fire risks, and potential Halloween storms. Sunday brings sunshine and seasonable highs from 62 to 66 degrees. However, changes arrive as early as Monday, when warmer temperatures in the mid-70s and south winds of 15-25 mph will start moving through the area.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, IL, conditions will intensify on Tuesday, with temperatures soaring between 80 and 85 degrees. Winds from the southwest are expected to reach gusts of 30-40 mph, prompting an elevated fire danger advisory for the region. Residents should avoid outdoor burning, secure loose items, and exercise caution with machinery that could spark fires.

Midweek, the forecast shows signs of instability, with scattered thunderstorms likely on Wednesday. Temperatures will stay in the low 80s as southwest winds continue at 30-35 mph, and there’s a 30% chance of afternoon and evening storms. By Thursday, cooler air moves in, dropping highs to between 60 and 70 degrees with a stronger likelihood of rain.

As Halloween approaches, families planning outdoor activities should monitor weather updates for potential storm advisories. With unpredictable conditions possible, NWS recommends having backup indoor plans for trick-or-treating.
