Peoria, IL – Central Illinois is bracing for severe thunderstorms predicted for Thursday evening, which could bring damaging winds and large hail. The US National Weather Service Central Illinois has issued an enhanced risk warning, classified as level 3 out of 5, for parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service, isolated wind gusts could reach up to 90 mph in areas highlighted in orange on the weather map, encompassing cities such as Peoria, Bloomington, and Springfield. These high winds pose significant risks, including the potential for power outages, property damage, and hazardous travel conditions.

Large hail is also a concern, with the storms capable of producing hailstones large enough to cause damage to vehicles, roofs, and crops. Residents in the affected areas are urged to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for possible power outages.
