Westminster, MD – A late-night crash in Carroll County left one teenager dead and four others injured Tuesday after a pickup truck overturned and came to rest partially in Little Pipe Creek, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies, the crash happened around 9:47 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, when a Ford F-250 traveling east on Jasontown Road approached John Hyde Road and failed to negotiate a left-hand turn. Investigators say the truck went off the roadway, traveled down an embankment, overturned, and landed on its roof in the creek.
The vehicle was occupied by five teenage males, all age 16. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver and three rear-seat passengers were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for further care. Two of the teens were airlifted by Maryland State Police Aviation, and two more were transported by Carroll County EMS units.
Deputies reported that the front-seat passenger, a 16-year-old male with a Westminster address, was taken to Carroll Hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is leading the investigation. According to officials, any potential charges will be determined after the unit completes its findings and consults with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Authorities said no additional details will be released until the investigation concludes.
