Buffalo, New York – Western New York will enjoy another mostly dry summer weekend, but increasing humidity and a growing chance for showers and thunderstorms will set the stage for a wetter start to the new week.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, Saturday will feature partly cloudy skies with afternoon highs ranging from 78 to 86 degrees. Most areas will stay dry, although a few showers and thunderstorms could develop east of Lake Erie, affecting portions of the Southern Tier and nearby inland communities.
Sunday will remain warm with highs again reaching 78 to 86 degrees, but isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread across western New York. Communities including Buffalo, Rochester, Jamestown, Batavia, Niagara Falls and the Finger Lakes could see brief downpours and lightning during the afternoon and evening as humidity continues to increase.
The most active weather arrives Monday, when showers and thunderstorms become likely under partly to mostly cloudy skies. While temperatures will remain in the upper 70s to mid-80s, higher moisture levels will make it feel more humid than earlier in the weekend. Localized heavy rainfall, gusty winds and dangerous lightning will be possible in stronger storms.
If you have outdoor plans Sunday or Monday, keep a close eye on changing weather conditions and have a shelter nearby if thunderstorms develop. Drivers should also be prepared for reduced visibility and ponding on roads during heavier downpours.
Warnings or advisories could be issued if stronger thunderstorms develop early next week.
