Charleston, WV – Freezing temperatures and snow showers will make for a wintry weekend across Charleston and much of West Virginia. A cold airmass will bring some of the lowest temperatures this season, with snow accumulations expected in higher elevations.
According to the National Weather Service, snow showers are expected to develop Friday afternoon and persist into Saturday morning, with temperatures dropping into the low 20s overnight. Areas like Snowshoe could see 2 to 3 inches of snow, while lower elevations, including Charleston, will likely remain snow-free. Drivers should prepare for icy roadways, especially on routes like Interstate 79 and U.S. Route 19.
Saturday will see mostly sunny skies, but temperatures will stay cold, with highs around 37 degrees in Charleston. Overnight lows will dip into the teens, making it critical for residents to bundle up and protect outdoor pets. Snow chances return Sunday afternoon, with a potential for light accumulations and highs near 38.
Looking ahead, the cold trend continues into next week, with Monday’s high only reaching 33 degrees under partly sunny skies. Overnight lows will remain in the teens through midweek, with another chance of snow showers on Wednesday.
Residents are advised to monitor weather updates and prepare for hazardous driving conditions, especially in the mornings. Plan ahead for travel and dress warmly to combat the cold.
