Austin, Texas – Central Texas is in for another pleasant but breezy day as sunshine dominates and temperatures climb well above early January norms, with gusty southerly winds developing by the afternoon and creating a noticeably windier feel.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin–San Antonio, today’s setup features cooler air lingering across northern sections of the region while warmer conditions build to the south. Afternoon highs will generally range from the upper 60s to mid-70s along the I-35 corridor, Hill Country, and Coastal Plains, with the warmest readings pushing into the upper 70s across the Rio Grande Plains. Winds will turn breezy by midday, with southerly gusts increasing through the afternoon hours.

Austin, San Antonio, New Braunfels, and San Marcos can expect highs near 70 to 74 degrees, while areas like Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Carrizo Springs trend warmer. Farther north toward Georgetown and Temple, slightly cooler readings will still feel mild under full sunshine.

The gusty winds may impact high-profile vehicles on east–west roads and could create choppy conditions on area lakes. Outdoor burning is discouraged, as dry grasses combined with wind can allow fires to spread more easily.

Skies remain clear into the evening, keeping conditions comfortable for nighttime activities. This mild pattern continues into the start of the workweek, with above-average temperatures and periodic breezy afternoons expected before the next weather system approaches later in the week.
