Little Rock, AR – Freeze warnings remain in effect across parts of Arkansas, Mississippi, and Louisiana early Friday as temperatures drop below freezing, potentially endangering crops and outdoor plumbing.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Shreveport, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 degrees are forecast through 9 a.m. Friday in Arkansas counties including Union, Columbia, Hempstead, Lafayette, Little River, and Nevada. In Mississippi, the NWS in Jackson has extended a freeze warning for areas such as Grenada, Oktibbeha, and Lauderdale, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 29 degrees. Louisiana’s warnings encompass several northern parishes with similar freezing conditions.

Frost and freeze conditions could damage sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor plumbing, the NWS warned. Residents are advised to wrap exposed pipes, drain irrigation systems, and bring tender plants indoors or provide adequate coverings.

While daytime temperatures are forecast to rise into the 60s and 70s by Friday afternoon, overnight lows will continue to flirt with freezing in some areas through the weekend.

Residents across the region are encouraged to stay updated with local forecasts and prepare for ongoing chilly conditions.
