Light snow will affect the Capital Region through tonight before additional rounds of snow arrive Sunday and again late Monday, according to a Saturday morning update from the National Weather Service in Albany. The agency reported that two disturbances will pass through the region this weekend, keeping conditions unsettled and temperatures well below normal.
Periods of light snow today and tonight are expected to produce a general coating to locally 3 inches of accumulation, with highs ranging from the upper 20s to upper 30s. Forecast graphics show persistent cloud cover across the region and the potential for light but steady snow at times.
On Sunday, lake effect snow showers are expected to develop, particularly downwind of Lake Ontario. High temperatures will remain in the upper teens to upper 20s, and wind chills may make conditions feel colder. The Weather Service notes that this second round of snow may lead to minor travel impacts during the morning and afternoon.
Another clipper system is forecast to arrive later Monday into Monday night, bringing additional snow showers. Highs Monday will stay in the upper teens to upper 20s, with nighttime temperatures again falling into the teens. Drier and slightly warmer weather is expected to return Tuesday, with highs in the lower 20s to lower 30s.
The Weather Service emphasizes that the next few days will remain chilly, with repeated chances for light snow. While amounts appear modest, periodic coatings may make untreated roads slick, especially during the early morning and evening hours.
