Gainesville, FL – A wanted man was taken into custody Monday morning after Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say he attempted to break into a Gainesville home before fleeing the scene.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a residential burglary on West University Avenue. Residents told authorities that Travis Grigger, a convicted felon, allegedly tried to enter the home after being told to leave.
Deputies said Grigger broke a window screen before running off. He was already wanted on multiple active warrants in Alachua County, including felony battery, making a written threat to kill or injure, and burglary with assault or battery. Officials said those warrants were tied to prior crimes against one of the people living in the home.
A sheriff’s office K-9 team tracked Grigger approximately 1.5 miles from the scene and found him hiding at a local motel. He was then taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities have not yet released additional details on potential new charges stemming from Monday’s attempted break-in.
