Mobile, Alabama – Rural communities across Alabama and Florida are bracing for rising waters this week as minor river flooding continues along the Tombigbee, Escambia, and Big Coldwater Creek. Water levels near Coffeeville Dam and Leroy are expected to crest by Thursday, prompting concerns over pastureland, road access, and livestock safety.
According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, the Tombigbee River near Coffeeville will rise above its 29-foot flood stage late Tuesday, reaching 30.6 feet by Thursday afternoon. Floodwaters are projected to impact pastureland and low-lying roads, including Old Ferry Road. In Leroy, the river will crest at 25.3 feet Friday morning, pushing water toward farmland and low-lying roadways.
In Florida’s Panhandle, the Escambia River near Century is expected to crest at 18.3 feet early Thursday. Flooding will affect low pastures in Escambia County. Big Coldwater Creek near Milton remains above flood stage but should fall below 10 feet by Wednesday morning.
In Arkansas, the Fourche Lafave River near Houston topped flood stage Tuesday evening and will slowly fall through Friday. Agricultural lands remain at risk in Perry County.
Residents in affected areas should avoid flooded roads and move livestock to higher ground. Warnings remain active through Saturday, with more rainfall possibly extending impacts.
