Westmoreland, NY – A 53 year old Utica woman has been arrested following an investigation into a late night residential burglary in Oneida County, where authorities say a suspicious woman was reportedly wandering around a home and attempting to open doors.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, deputies responded Oct. 1 to a residence along Route 5 in the town of Westmoreland after receiving a report of a woman behaving suspiciously outside the property during the overnight hours.
The woman was reportedly walking around the exterior of the residence and trying door handles in an apparent attempt to gain entry.
During their initial investigation, deputies determined that a burglary had occurred at the property.
Because the incident involved a felony level offense, the case was transferred to the Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation.
Investigators subsequently identified the suspect as Patricia A. Moses, 53, of Utica.
On Tuesday, Oct. 13, sheriff's investigators located Moses and took her into custody.
She was transported to the Sheriff's Law Enforcement Building for processing.
Authorities charged Moses with third degree burglary, a Class D felony; fourth degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor; third degree criminal trespass, a Class B misdemeanor; and third degree criminal tampering, also a Class B misdemeanor.
Following processing, Moses was arraigned in CAP Court and remanded to the county correctional facility on bail.
The Sheriff's Office did not disclose whether anyone was inside the residence during the incident, whether property was stolen or what evidence investigators used to identify the suspect.
Officials also did not release the amount of bail imposed.
The case follows a nearly two week investigation between the initial October 1 report and the October 13 arrest.
All charges are allegations, and Moses is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
