MIDDLEBURGH, NY – Nearly 40 years after a 26 year old woman disappeared from a small Schoharie County community west of Albany, New York State Police are renewing their appeal for information that could help resolve the decades old mystery.
According to New York State Police, Erica, originally from Michigan, was reported missing after her out of state family was unable to contact her. She last spoke with relatives on Oct. 13, 1986, before disappearing from Middleburgh, New York.
The case has remained unresolved for nearly four decades, with investigators continuing to seek information about what happened.
State Police Troop G's Major Crimes Unit and investigators at SP Princetown have made a concentrated effort to investigate the case and are again asking for the public's assistance.
The disappearance dates back to a time before cellphones, social media and modern digital tracking technology became widely available, making historical missing person investigations especially challenging.
Middleburgh is located in Schoharie County, southwest of the Albany metropolitan area. Although Erica was living in New York when she disappeared, her Michigan roots mean people outside the state may also have information relevant to the investigation.
Police have not publicly identified a suspect or announced a resolution in the information provided with their latest appeal.
Investigators are encouraging anyone who remembers Erica, knew her whereabouts in October 1986 or has information about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance to come forward.
Even information that may seem insignificant could provide investigators with another avenue to examine.
Anyone with information is asked to contact New York State Police at 518 457 6811 or email Crimetip@troopers.ny.gov .
As the 40 year anniversary of Erica's last known family contact passes, investigators continue seeking answers about her disappearance.
